We were SO happy to not have any of our friends come to school crying! Everyone came to school with a smile on his/her face! We were also very impressed that all of our friends knew exactly where to put their bookbags, agendas, and lunchboxes. When we played the line-up song, all our students got in a straight line and were ready for the hall. We had a chance to play in our puzzle center. What fun we had! We read a silly story about Morris the Moose who had to go to school because he couldn't read. He did some crazy things! Ask your child to tell you about it. The children also had a great time on the playground. We began practicing writing our names. This would be a great skill to begin practicing at home on the paper with lines. We talk about the capital letters and tall letters touch the top line, "the sky". The small letters stay under "the fence", the dotted line, and all the letters have to stop at "the grass", the bottom line. Please make sure you help your child write his/her name with the first letter a capital one and all the others lowercase. We practice this each morning when the children arrive.
All of our students have done a great job following the rules. We seem to have the most difficulty with talking instead of listening. Please discuss the importance of listening. Those who are good listeners seem to have the most success learning. On Monday, we will begin pulling sticks for those students who receive more that one warning for breaking a rule. Please support us with our discipline system in order for us to have a productive learning environment. Thanks!
There is a change in the way ice cream is handled. The PTO will be selling ice cream tickets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Each ice cream is 50 cents. When you send ice cream money to school, we will send your child to the school store to purchase a ticket. He/she will carry the ticket with him to lunch. After eating lunch, the ice cream will be handed out by a teacher or PTO member. Ice cream is offered everyday at lunch, BUT tickets can only be bought on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. If your child will be eating ice cream frequently, it would be a good idea to have your child purchase several tickets, which we will send home. When you'd like your child to have ice cream, you can send a ticket in his/her agenda for that day. Money that is put in the agenda on days that ice cream tickets are not sold will be returned in the agenda.
We'd like to invite you in advance to our Curriculum Night which will be held on August 21st. This is a very important night to learn about all the things that your child will learn. We will be discussing homework, and you will receive a sight word box, which will set your child on the road to reading. I am unsure of the time at this moment, but it is usually around 7:00 p.m. You will be receiving an invitation at a later date.
Thanks so much for visiting our website and blog. We hope it helps to keep you informed! Have a very nice weekend, and we look forward to seeing your children on Monday!

What a Great Day!
We had a wonderful first day of school! We colored a picture to save to remember our first day of Kindergarten. We sung our good morning song, "Welcome to School." We met our new classmates and practiced how to carry our lunch trays. We practiced and discussed the rules of our classroom. The children are excited about following all the rules so they may participate in our end of the month celebration, an ice cream party with all the toppings. Please encourage your child to remember and follow our rules, so that we can have a great time of learning and fun. The children did a great job being responsible to put their agendas and bookbags away where they belong. We sang some other fun songs like, Bubble Gum, and Mother Gooney Bird. We look forward to another wonderful day tomorrow. :0) We really enjoyed meeting and spending the day with your children!

Nice to Meet Everyone!
We had a great turnout for our Open House. It was so nice to get to meet everyone. We seem to have a wonderful group of boys and girls in our class. We heard many nice comments from some of the children. One said, "I want school to start right now!" Another said, "This is an amazing classroom." My favorite was when a little girl asked me about the large carpet on the floor. She said, "Mrs. Broome, is this the dance floor?" I replied, "What a great idea!" We look forward to all our students coming tomorrow and having a great start to our new year together! Thank you to those who attended.

It's Almost Time!
Well, we are finally finished with the decoration and setup of our classroom. We are very proud of the way it looks and hope the students will see it as a fun place to be. We are excited about meeting our new students and their parents at Open House tomorrow. Only one more day before school starts. Even though I've been teaching for 17 years, I still get butterflies on the first day of school. :0)
